Screen Capture And Recorder By Screeny is a neat Chrome extension that captures images and videos on screen. It allows users to take a screenshot or record videos of their screens. Its greatest advantage is that there is no need to download it to a desktop.

Go to this link to add the extension to Google. It comes with mixed reviews, but the writer’s user experience so far is mainly with screenshots, which are pretty ok.

It was difficult to capture a screen recording of Screenly with another screen recorder, so we did the best we could. Here are the steps

Go to the Google Chrome browser.
Click on the EXTENSIONS icon.
Select Screen Capture and Recorder by Screenly.
The following dialogue box will be shown to you – the top bar gives the options to capture a screenshot, capture a video or review the history.
You can then select the area to be captured – whole page, visible area, or custom area.

To capture a whole page screenshot:

Click on the camera icon at the top as indicated by the arrow.
Select whole page.
The area will be captured and you will then be taken to a new page.
The new page contains the screenshot.
Hover over the icons at the top of the page to annotate.
Select one of the icons on the extreme right – download, save to Google Drive, or Copy.
Select SAVE AS PDF or SAVE AS PNG If you want to download or save to Google Drive.

Follow these steps to capture a visible area of a page with Screenly:

Scroll until the desired area of the page is visible on the screen.
Click on the camera icon at the top as indicated by the arrow.
Select visible area.
The area will be captured and you will then be taken to a new page.
The new page contains the screenshot.
Hover over the icons at the top of the page to annotate.
Select one of the icons on the extreme right – download, save to Google Drive, or Copy.
Select SAVE AS PDF or SAVE AS PNG If you want to download or save to Google Drive.

Follow these steps to capture a custom area of a page with Screenly:

Click on the camera icon at the top as indicated by the arrow.
Select custom area.
A dialogue box with four dots will be shown to you.
Hover the mouse over any of the dots and drag them to select the desired area to be captured.
Select DONE at the top of the screenshot.
You will be taken to a new page with the screenshot.
Hover over the icons at the top of the page to annotate.
Select one of the icons on the extreme right – download, save to Google Drive, or Copy.
Select SAVE AS PDF or SAVE AS PNG If you want to download or save to Google Drive.

Follow these steps to capture a desktop screen record with Screenly:

Go to Google Chrome browser.
Select Extensions.
Scroll down to Screen Capture and Recorder by Screenly.
Click on the video icon in the center.
A dialogue box will be presented.
Select DESKTOP.
A SHARE screen will come up.
Select the screen to be shared, then click SHARE.
A countdown timer will appear from 3 to 1.
Start to record when the timer reaches 1.
Click on STOP SHARING on completion.
Choose the share location on the next page – Google Drive, Download, or Export to MP4.

Follow these steps to capture a webcam screen record with Screenly:

Go to Google Chrome browser.
Select Extensions.
Scroll down to Screen Capture and Recorder by Screenly.
Click on the video icon in the center.
A dialogue box will be presented.
Select WEBCAM.
A pop-up box will come up.
Select ALLOW access to camera & microphone
Record when the screen comes up.
A countdown timer will appear from 3 to 1.
Start to record when the timer reaches 1.
Click STOP on completion.
Choose the share location on the next page – Google Drive, Download, or Export to MP4.
