How I got into music distribution with Distrokid

I started in music publishing as a music publisher because of my interest in the industry. I asked my brother Lyndon Delano Moos to help me out as a publisher and he gave me Don’s Song.

Don’s Song is an electric guitar instrumental that was written by Lyndon Delano Moss almost two decades ago as he taught his son Don to walk.

I got this song because I had registered with Distrokid in October 2018 and needed to test it out. I had not done anything with it for almost two months. I therefore asked my brother to give me some music for publication. He gave me Don’s Song, an instrumental piece.

Don’s Song produced the most exhilarating effect on me that I was blown. As I listened, I felt happy and felt as if I was skipping along. Curious, I asked Lyndon to tell me the story behind the song.

I asked Lyndon if he was thinking words when he wrote the song. I also asked what he was thinking about when he composed the melody.

Lyndon responded that he actually heard Don’s Song in his ear as he taught his son Don to walk. He said that he counted out a 4/4 beat, one two three four, to help Don to walk.

I was again blown away when I heard the story behind Don’s Song because I had never heard about anybody teaching a child to walk with a musical beat.

Intrigued, I started to search online. I discovered that recent scientific research shows a connection between musical rhythm or beats and movement.

Scientists now know that music beats help people to walk better and also improves balance

Scientists now have coined a discipline called Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation. The science of Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation that people walk better and have better balance when they hear strong music pulsation.

Dr. Jessica Grahn, a neuroscientist and a musician herself, discovered through research and checking brain waves that there are movement centers in the brain that become activated when people hear strong music rhythms.

Dr. Grahn now uses this information to help people with disorders like Parkinson’s disease to walk. In Parkinson’s Disease people freeze and music pulsations or rhythms or beats help them to walk without freezing so terribly.

How I distributed Don’s Song by Lyndon Delano Moss to 150 stores worldwide

One of the most important things about Distrokid is that the company distributes your music to 150 or more music outlets online. This is amazing and perfect for indie artists, small record labels, medium size record labels, and even big record labels.

Today, Don’s Song is now on Amazon, Deezer, Google Play, YouTube, Spotify, Shazam, Pandora among other online locations. This places it on par with any major record label worldwide.

It is very easy to upload a song to the Distrokid. However, it must preferably be done in WAV format. The platform shows where the song was submitted. For example, Don’s Song was submitted very quickly to Amazon.

Some of the other channels to which my brother’s music was distributed include Apple, Instagram, Facebook, Google Play, YouTube, iHeart Radio, and Spotify. The major platforms send a link to the song, although many of them do not.
